Have You Heard? Lament of The Fallen by Andy Peloquin is ON FIRE!

Bucelarii-2-Small

First of all, I want to congratulate the author, Andy Peloquin, for his well-deserved win of the 2017 RONE Award for Best Fantasy/Sci-Fi book. Ironically, this happened just as I finished reading book two in The Last Bucelarii series, Lament of The Fallen, which is the very book I am reviewing now.

Lament of The Fallen … Lament of The Fallen. I didn’t really get this title until I was well into reading this book, where I discovered what a perfectly matched title Andy had chosen for this story. Perhaps, if one thinks about it long and hard, a reader will come to grasp a tiny piece of what this book is about simply by playing it on repeat in one’s mind. I’ve never expounded thus on a book title prior to this one, but it just goes to show how deeply this story touched me, no, grabbed me, on every spectrum of the emotional scale.

The Hunter continues his quest from book one, Blade of The Destroyer, in this second gripping, emotionally devastating story. Yes, devastating. The author shredded my heart in pieces as it broke over and over and over again for the Hunter, a magnificent anti-hero (he can be my hero forever), a ruthless killer with a ginormous heart who refuses to take orders from the demons living inside him. If you want a full on synopsis of Lament of The Fallen, please visit Andy Peloquin’s various social media platforms to inquire further. I absolutely abhor spoilers, and I’m not going to start writing them now.

As far as how this story impacted me, all I can say is, “Wear your armor when reading this one. You’ll need it.” There were so many times I wanted to cry my eyes out, to reach inside the pages of the story unfolding before my eyes to ease the pain, suffering, and deception experienced by the Hunter. Who would have thought I’d ever feel compassion on such a strong magnitude for a killer? Ahhh, but the Hunter is no typical killer – he has a heart.

If you haven’t yet begun reading this exquisite artist’s work, I highly encourage you to do so now. Caution: if you have to get up early the next morning for work, you may want to postpone reading Andy Peloquin’s beautifully creative works of art until the weekend. You will stay up long after your usual bedtime, turning the pages (or swiping to the next) as quickly as possible to discover just what happens next.

In my truly honest opinion, Andy Peloquin is the most creative writer I’ve read to date, and yes, this includes every other book I’ve ever read in my life. Lament of The Fallen…just do it, but start on book one in the series, Blade of The Destroyer. Oh! And don’t forget my very favorite book of all time by the same author, Child of The Night Guild – a must read, blow your mind kind of story!

Now, I’m on to read book three, Gateway to The Past.

Blurb

They say we’re all time travelers in one way or another, and with every passing second, we alter the next second. Time is simply something lost in our own memories. You can’t see it, you can’t touch it, you can’t control it, and you can’t change it. It’s in a place where you can’t right your wrongs. A place where your history is in front of you, and there is nothing you can do about it. You can only move forward to the next second, and you certainly can’t go back.
Unless you accidentally meet a crazy little lady named Shotgun Roxy with a magic wand that is. One second I was a normal, middle-aged woman, living a normal everyday life, and the next … I found myself cast into a play with a parade of a characters from another time without a script.
Was I dead?
Was I in Heaven?
Was Heaven in the eighties?

Excerpt

“I’m not a child. We’re practically the same age. What should I call you?”

“People call me Shotgun Roxy. You can call me Roxy.”

I followed her to the back of the store, feeling a little let down. “Roxy?”

“You don’t like Roxy?”

“Sure. I mean, I guess. I was just expecting something like Madame Cleopatra or something more powerful.”

Roxy tossed her head back and laughed. “I like that. Maybe I’ll change my name. Now, tell me. How have you been?”

Have You Heard’s Review for Deamhan by Isaiyan Morrison

Deamhan was absolutely enchanting. This is not a romance story, and I’m finding myself drawn more and more closely to stories without all the romance, though I do love a good romance too.

Deamhan captured my attention right away. The four types of Deamhan, vampires, black magic, and humans. What do they all have in common? Deamhan. This is not your typical ‘vampire’ story; no, it’s so much more. Very intense, full of suspense, twists, turns, and intrigue, I didn’t want to put this down. I pride myself on my knowledge of words, but Isaiyan Morrison actually had me using the definition option for a few great words. I’m impressed.

Thank you so much for a great read!! I am eager to delve into the next book in the series to discover what happens next. The small cliffhanger left in Deamhan has certainly piqued my curiosity. Well done, Isaiyan Morrison! Well done!

Have You Heard? My Review of an EXCEPTIONAL BOOK, Child of the Night Guild by Andy Peloquin

Child of the Night Guild

It’s a rarity that a book leaves me speechless, unsure if I’ll be able to give the story its proper and most deserving credit. Child of the Night Guild by Andy Peloquin has done just that to me. I’ve been ruminating over how to give this beyond phenomenal story its due. Child of the Night Guild took me completely by surprise. This is the first book I’ve read by Andy Peloquin and it most definitely will not be my last. I will read everything he publishes in the future. The reason I picked up this book is that I noticed how Andy Peloquin wrote when he did takeovers. I am very impressed when I see amazing writing skills by an author, and Andy Peloquin is creative writing at its finest!! Believe his statement when he writes, “I am an artist. Words are my palette.” It’s true. This author has a way with words that is extremely rare, and most struggle to find this level of quality in writing, including me.

Child of the Night Guild was full of surprises, twists, turns-things I didn’t see coming at all. The story of a young girl who is determined to survive no matter the cost. And survive she does. Not only that, she refuses to let anyone else be better at what they do than she. Back alleys, abuse, thievery, tragedies, successes … it’s all there. This is one story you do not want to miss.

This is not your typical story of romance, HEAs, erotica; nope, none of that exists in this book. Still, there is love of the best kind. Are you scrolling through your Kindle in hopes of finding that next, DIFFERENT story? Look no further. You’ll find everything you’re seeking in Child of the Night Guild by Andy Peloquin.  I don’t know how I’m going to make it until book two is released in June. I’m so thankful I found this author’s work.

BLURB

“They killed my parents. They took my name. They imprisoned me in darkness. I would not be broken.”

The Night Guild molds an innocent waif into a cunning, agile outlaw skilled in the thieves’ trade. She has only one choice: steal enough to pay her debts.

The cutthroat streets of Praamis will test her mettle, and she must learn to dodge the City Guards or swing from a hangman’s rope. But a more dangerous foe lurks within the guild walls. A sadistic rival apprentice, threatened by her strength, is out for blood.

What hope does one girl have in a world of ruthless men?
